He was invested with the sacred thread at age of eight. From then onwards he practiced jjapaof Gayathri mantra with great devotion. He would sit in one position for hours together and perform Japa and Dhyana. He thus did for twenty one years. But, he had no Guru. In 1910 he had a dream. He had the vision of Lord Narayana. The Lord smiled at him and the dream ended. After an hour he had another dream in which he was separated from his body and was looking at it. At that time he saw Lord Narayana and another person next to the Lord. Lord Narayana showed him that person and said, Child, He is SAIBABA. He is a resident of SHIRDI. He is yours. Surrender to Him. So Saying, ,he disappeared. This dream ended and within few minutes he had another dream in this dream floating through the air he reached a village. He asked someone, Where have I Come The man responded, SHIRDI. He asked Him Is there a man named Saibaba here. He said, Yes, cone with me. I will take you to him. So Saying, he took him to a Masjid where Saibaba was found sitting. Baba was sitting casually with His legs stretched. He went and prostrated at Babas Holy Feet. Baba lifted him up and said, Have you come, my child You have come for my darshan but I have been longing for your darshan. I am your debtor. I was suppose to come for your darshan. Saying this, Baba hugged him affectionately and the dream ended. After some days he went to SHIRDI. At that time as he saw in his dream, Baba was sitting with his legs stretched. To his utmost surprise, Baba resembled the same form he saw in the dream. There were many people in the Masjid at that time. As Baba moved freely with the crowds, he had a doubt that Baba might be an ordinary person. Baba being omniscient realized this and said, Why take pains and come such long distance to have darshan of an ordinary person No one understood these words. He realized that these words were meant for him. He realized that Baba was Lord Narayana and fell at His Holy Feet. Again, he felt bad thatBaba did not hug him as he did in his dream. He sat in the Masjid for several hours. In the afternoon when every body dispersed, but he remained there and approach Baba with devotion. Baba then drew him closer and hugged him lovingly. Baba said,Child, You are my very own child. When there are crowds I keep my children at a distance. Even otherwise there are chances of getting ruined with ego. He felt happy and offered shashtang namaskar to Baba. He adored Baba as God and Guru, and was transformed. While I am here, those difficulties will not be painful to you. Mahalspati did not understand what Baba meant. Meanwhile his wife, three daughters, and son became ill. Some doctors who came for Babas darshan to SHIRDI volunteered to treat them. Mahalspati conveyed this matter to Baba. Baba said, Do not accept anyones medicine or treatment. I am your doctor. I alone will cure it. Have faith. Later Baba took thesatka in His hand and began to walk around Dwarkamayi shouting, Yeh ComeLetme too witness your power With this strange remedy all the family members of Mahalspatis family were cured. Babas leelas are unfathomable. Purandhare worked as clerk in Bombay with an income of thirty five rupees per month. He heard about Baba and His miracles through some people and developedfaith that Baba wasParmathma. He pined to have darshan of his Lo4. With a meager salary he struggled hard to look after his mother and family. It was difficult for him even to meet the daily expenses. In spite of all this, he firmly decided to visit SHIRDI along with his wife and mother. At that time his six month old child was suffering from fever. So his mother and wife were hesitant to proceed to SHIRDI. Even then to control his overflow stream of love, he put the entire burden on Baba and went to SHIRDI. Baba was pleased with his devotion. Baba well liked his devotion which made him to visit SHIRDI in spite of his child in fever. Babacurehis ailment of his child. Truly Sai is a loving God. Before delivery Mrs. Purandhre fell ill. One night Baba appeared in her dream and said,Child, are you worried What an these doctors Do to you Do not fear since I am here. So Saying, He applied Udi onher forehead.
