• According to Shri Govind Raghunath Dhabolkar alias Hemadpant (author of "Shri Sai Satcharitra"), the practice of performing daily Abhishek was initiated by a group of devotees known as "Abhishekiwale." during the early years after Baba's Mahasamadhi. Today dedicated group of priests and trained karyakartha handle this function.

When is Abhishek performed for Sai Baba?

• The daily Abhishek takes place after Kakad Arati (morning arathi) and before Madhyan Arati (noon arathi ). It is also performed as a special ritual (Maha Abhishek) on occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, festivals and events dedicated to Sai Baba.

The Ganges Bath Incident Involving Megha and Shirdi Sai Baba

• One Makar-Sankranti day, Megha desired to smear sandal paste on Sai Baba's body and bathe Him with water from the Godavari. Initially, Baba was reluctant but eventually agreed due to Megha's persistent requests. To prepare for this ritual, Megha had to travel a distance of eight koss (approximately 4 kilometers) to fetch the sacred water from the Gomati river (another name for Godavari).
• After making all necessary preparations at noon, Megha asked Baba to get ready for his bath. However, as Megha was overly enthusiastic and wanted to pour a large amount of water on Sai Baba's head, he accidentally turned the entire pot onto Baba's head instead. Miraculously, the water only wetted Baba's head without touching his clothes or body, demonstrating Baba's control over water (jale sthambanam).
